Beautiful Beaches
The beautiful beaches of the Mar Menor are only 100 metres from the entrance of the apartment. the view is breathtaking! The evening sunset is astounding - especially from the restaurant on the beach. The Mediterranean beaches are only 500 metres from the apartment. Definitely spoilt for choice if you like sunbathing!! There are also many other beaches up and down 'The Strip' one in particular about 300 metres away is popular for enjoying the benefits of a local 'Mud Bath' collected fresh from the Mar Menor and Spread all over the body - left to dry and then washed off - it's properties have many healing powers particularly for skin complaints and arthritis. Some have also said it is also rejuvenating qualities and can stop the process of aging - I am still working on that one............ |

History
The area is steeped in history from La Manga, Murcia to Cartagena which has an old Port and many Roman sites to see.A tourist office is available at the top of 'The Strip' where you can find more information for places of interest and how to get to them. The nearby city of Cartagena has a rich and monumental history. As well having an abundance of culture Cartagena is also naturally blessed with a coastline that is nothing short of spectacular. One of its beaches Calblanque beach - is part of a nature reserve. |
Shopping
Within 100m of the aprtment you will find a well stocked supermarket which includes, a fresh meat counter, fish counter, fresh fruit and vegetables, an in-house bakery and everything required for your holiday including a full range of local wines and beverages.
At the entrance to the Marina there is another supermarket, a range of bars and restaurants. There is also a Burger King and cycle hire situated there too.
A short drive away is Bohemia Plaza which holds an evening craft market and a selection of shops and restaurants.. For the serious shopper there is the cities of Cartagena and Murcia well worth a trip.

Local Area
La Manga Del Mar Menor is a strip of land 21 km long with a numerous choice of white sandy beaches. The strip separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor which is a lagoon that has maximum depth of 8m, and is considered to be the worlds largest swimming pool, due to its calm and warm waters, which are rich in salts. This provides water temperatures in the winter months of 11C, which rises to 30C at the height of the summer. The waters and black mud are scientifically recognised as being therapeutic for ailments such as rheumatism and arthritis. You can spot the area where the mud is most plentiful by the bathers walking around waiting for the mud to dry! The nearest beach to apply this is El Estacion around 500 yards away. The beaches have a gentle slope and ideal for all the family, crystal clear waters allows you to see the small fish and occasional sea horse. The road running through La Manga also offers the cyclist the safety of a cycle-lane, cycling by the waters edge and beach is truly wonderful at any time of the year. The strip is also a paradise for those who like to stroll by the waters edge and maybe call in at the the 2 nearby beach bars and restaurants El Estacion and Playa Chica, both within a short walk away. At the very end of the Strip - is a nature reserve where flamingos can be seen in the winter which is quite spectacular. |
Sport & Activities
The Mar Menor is ideal for the sporting activist - the breezes are perfect for kites, kite surfing, wind surfing (or you may prefer to catch the rays with a soft breeze and martini!)La Manga del Mar Menor is probably the best place in the world for the practice of nautical sports. Pedalos, jet skis are for hire on some of the beaches. With the two distinct seas and soft breezes, sunny days make La Manga a sailors paradise; various sport ports, such as the Peurto Tomas Maestre or the Port of Cabo de Palos, numerous sailing schools, and diving clubs for those who prefer underwater activities. A few other activities you can find at La Manga include, horse riding, 9 hole pitch and put, for the professional there is always La Manga Golf Club with its championship courses and a casino. Boat trips from Thomas Maestre on a daily basis offer a variety of trips, including a daily service to Santiago de La Riberia for around 4.5 euros per person where there is a weekly market on Wednesdays. The boats and private yachts can be seen from our roof garden and balconies, gently sailing by! Binoculars are recommended, see if you can spot the rich and famous! |

Gastronomic Delights
As we mentioned earlier, La Manga offers an excellent choice of cuisine, something for everyone. Traditional mediterranean style of cooking is plentiful in many of the nearby restaurants. A few to mention are paellas, fresh fish, freshly grilled meats and succulent salads. Normally using locally grown produce and fresh catches from the sea and mar menor by local fishermen. One of the local delicacies is fish known as Mujol or dorada cooked in a jacket of salt. Lobster is also available, as are oysters when in season. You might want to try the local Murcian Salad which is tuna, tomatoes, egg and olives in a thick tomato puree served cold (with fresh crusty bread of course!) At Thomas Maestre Marina, which remember is in walking distance there is an excellent selection of restaurants overlooking the Mar menor. These include french, greek, spanish and Thai to name but a few - the perfect place to end a perfect day - the sunsets are amazing.............. Closer to the penthouse (your holiday home) there are a couple of restaurants, the nearest is Pacos and provides a varied menu, very reasonably priced, a short walk away. |
Dancing the night away
The young tend to head for Cabo de Palos, which changes from a sleepy fishing village by day to a bustling selection of pubs with music to suit all. Everyone, young or old, visit El Zoco Alcazaba with its collection of shops, bars and restaurants at some time during their stay in La Manga. Things really come alive in the early hours of the morning and offer an incredible selection of bars and music for those with stamina and no need to be up early the next day. There is a regular bus service Bus Manga is seen throughout the day and evening traveling up and down the strip all for around 1 euro. Hop on and discover La Manga! |
